Abstract
Contemporary operational environments require military personnel
to interpret incomplete information, coordinate specialized
knowledge, and make timely decisions under pressure, which calls
into question training models focused exclusively on the
transmission of doctrine. The objective was to identify case-based
and game simulation learning methodologies used in military
training through a literature review. A narrative review was
conducted in Scopus and Web of Science, covering articles
published between 2011 and 2026, of which 18 were included. The
main results showed that these methodologies promote cognitive
engagement, the analysis of alternatives, safe experimentation with
error, team coordination, and reflective feedback. It is concluded that
both methodologies form an experiential pedagogical continuum
capable of transforming doctrine into informed decisions; future
research should examine longitudinal effects, transfer of learning,
and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
